Polycom Video Conferencing Supports First Open Global Forum And Debate On Africa's Most Critical Health Issues
Polycom's ViewStation video conferencing systems joined together world leaders in the African Union Summit's Special Session on Africa's biggest health problems. The Summit unites world leaders using Polycom video conferencing, Internet and satellite technologies to discuss HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis at African Union Summit.
Polycom's video conferencing systems together with its MGC-100 Multipoint Control Units was used to enable a live video conference between the forum sites in Maputo, Durban, Nairobi, Geneva, Washington DC and the Department for International Development in London. Dimension Data, Polycom's channel partner in South Africa is also providing technical support in Maputo. Additional sites joining via audio conference are located in New York and Dublin. Worldwide experts in Ear Nose & Throat (Otolaryngology) surgery at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham are to be linked via video conference to the operating theatres at Clinique Causse, Colombiers, France. The link is made possible through the use of ViewStation FX as video conferencing is increasingly being used within the medical sector as a tool to aid communication and share expertise.
Two operations will be performed and transmitted live bringing together the surgeons at the Clinique Causse in France and the delegates at the Convention Centre in Birmingham via the Polycom ViewStation FX's installed in each location. Borough of Hackney Shows IP Video Communications Are Key To Education In the 21st Century
Highwire, Hackney's City Learning Centre (CLC), was the first of its kind to open in the UK with its aim to improve teaching and learning in the Borough of Hackney through the use of the very latest IT and communications technology (ICT), particularly video communications. Highwire's implementation of ViewStation 512 and ViewStation FX video conferencing systems from Polycom, has enabled Highwire to link nine secondary and two primary schools using video conferencing over IP to create virtual classrooms. Highwire has proved that harnessing technology and video communications in education can have a big impact, allowing schools to add input to subjects across the curriculum while saving time and maximising the use of available resources and expertise.
Head teachers in Hackney have driven the use of video conferencing as a new approach to education, as they believe that schools within the Borough benefit enormously from the use of such technology. UK Department of Health and France's Largest Dialysis Centre Highlight Polycom's Leadership in Telemedicine at Health Care Computing 2003.
The Saint Brieuc Hospital, Brittany, provides 14,000 dialysis sessions every year and supervises a part-time dialysis centre at Lannion, some 20km away, using Polycom (Hall M, Stand M60) video communications systems. Nursing staff at Lannion have constant access to doctors at the St Brieuc Hospital throughout the whole dialysis process for every patient.
This use of live video for long distance medical supervision was estimated to have saved French social security around euros 34,071 on reduced travel costs for patients to attend dialysis sessions. This equates to 22.5% of the annual cost of providing dialysis at the Lannion temporary centre. Polycom Improves operating efficiency and saved daily expenses at China Construction Bank (CCB)
One of China's top four state-owned commercial banks, has announced the completion of a nationwide video conferencing network built using Polycom video endpoints and video infrastructure systems. The new network, which links regional offices in 38 provincial capitals, will be used to improve operating efficiency and speed face-to-face communications between executives at the CCB's Beijing headquarters and those in the capitals.
CCB is one of China's biggest lenders, operating tens of thousands of branches and sub-branches across the country. Prior to the video deployment, executives from different branches travelled long distances to headquarters for reporting, and officers from the headquarters also spent significant time and money on business travel.
